Jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke - www.lionellouke.com - originally from the small West African nation of Benin, combines harmonic sophistication, soaring melody, a deep knowledge of African music, plus conventional and extended guitar techniques to create a warm and evocative sound of his own. Legendary pianist Herbie Hancock calls Beninese guitarist and Blue Note recording artist Lionel Loueke a "musical painter." Also presenting opener Darren Sigesmund Strands Sextet - www.darrensigesmund.ca - the 2010 JUNO nominee and Galaxie Rising Star winner, who firmly established his Strands project as one of Canada's leading national & international touring ensembles.
